NIGHT RATING

Prerequisites

1. Must hold a valid Private Pilot License or higher to be eligible for the Night Rating.

2. Must hold an unrestricted Category 1 or 3 Medical Certificate completed by a Transport Canada approved Medical Examiner.

10 Hours minimum consisting of:

5 hours dual (with instructor)

5 hours solo

Note: these flight training times are based on Transport Canada minimums and more training may be required

20 Hours minimum consisting of:

10 hours dual (with instructor) and 10 hours solo

Note: 5 hours of instrument time may be carried over from the Private Pilot License. 5 hours of flight simulator time can be applied. However, it cannot be used to reduce the dual or solo required time

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

  •  NIGHT: 10 hours total (5 dual, 5 solo)
  • INSTRUMENT: 10 hours total (maximum 5 hours in a simulator)

PRIVILEGES OF NIGHT RATING HOLDER

The night rating entitles the holder to fly any single-engine or multi-engine non-high performance aircraft to fly at night under Visual Flight Rules (VFR).
